a) Children in Need Teams are responsible for providing an on-going social work service for children in need of support and protection and their families. These children will be subject to a Child in Need Plan or a Child Protection Plan.

b) The Children with Disabilities Team is also within the Locality CIN Service. The Children with Disabilities Team provides a specialist social work service for children and young people who have a permanent and substantial sensory, learning and physical disabilities.

c) The Family Assessment Team (FAT) provides focussed and time-limited parenting assessments commissioned by locality and specialist children's social work teams, both under the Public Law Outline and in Care proceedings. The assessment work is carried out jointly by social workers and family support workers, and the team offers parents the opportunity to engage with parenting teaching, delivered through group work and individual teaching sessions, in order to assess their ability to engage with support and improve their parenting abilities.

The FAT criteria includes undertaking family assessments with:

  • Parents with learning disabilities/difficulties
  • Parents with a range of complex needs and circumstances, including mental ill health, substance misuse, domestic abuse, offending behaviour etc.
  • Parents who have had a previous child/ren removed from their care
  • Parents who are local authority children in care or care leavers

d) The Locality CIN Teams and the Children with Disabilities Team will all allocated a named social worker to each child in need to engage with them and their parents to address specific issues requiring support and build safety for children in need of protection. Every child is unique and issues requiring support and protection will be many and varied.

e) Locality CIN Teams and the Children with Disabilities Team will continually assess, plan, support, intervene, monitor and review.
